Local favourite Ansu Kumar Bhuyan bagged a double by winning both the men`s singles and doubles titles in the 9th Odisha Open Tennis Tournament here at Bhubaneswar Club courts today. He retained the singles title and the Major Sandeep Mohapatra Memorial Trophy by defeating his former coach Santosh Mallik, who conceded the final match due to hand injury while trailing 1-6, 1-3.
Earlier Bhuyan pocketed the doubles crown with Avilash Mishra, getting the better of Satirtha Patnaik and Ajay Nishank in straight sets. Bhuyan received a total cash prize of Rs 19,000. The mixed doubles title was captured by Abhilash Chandra Sahoo and Rutuparna Choudhury.
Odisha State Development Commissioner UN Behera and Home Secretary Asit Tripathy handed over the trophies in the presence of host Khurda District Tennis Association president Madhusudan Padhi, secretary Asit Pradhan and tournament referee Jatin Batsya. The tournament carries a total prize fund of Rs 1 lakh and competition will take place in six events.
